College Lacrosse
Get the inside scoop on college lax. As the most popular level of play in the sport, college lax is gaining quite a bit of publicity with the Big East Conference sponsoring mens lacrosse as an official league sport. Several schools are looking to add varsity mens lacrosse to their programs in the next two years. With new teams being recruited and realignments, collegiate lacrosse is going to see some changes in 2010.
New Stick Rules
A major change coming to lacrosse that has equipment makers up in arms is the change in sticks. The NCAA Lacrosse Rules Committee is proposing changes to the dimensions of the lacrosse stick, effective January 1, 2010. Before the game begins, umpires check sticks for legality. The most common violation is the pocket is too deep. A three measurement point scheme will be used. The changes include widening of the measurement at the 1¼-inch mark to 3 inches for both the front and back of the crosse. At the 5-inch mark, the required measurement is 4 inches in front and 3½ inches in back. At the widest point the measurements stay the same with 6½ inches measured at the inside front of the crosse and a minimum of 6 inches on the back.
