Lacrosse Shoulder Pads

Shoulder Pads

Protection is the most important thing when buying lacrosse shoulder pads or rib pads. Shoulder pads come with adjustable straps that loop underneath the armpits onto the chest. Shoulder pads should protect the sternum and upper arms as well as the shoulders. Most shoulder pads have removable upper arm guards and may also have hard plastic shells on the high impact areas. Shoulder pads should fit tightly to the body.

Rib pads are not required but they are recommended especially for attack and middies. Rib pads are worn with adjustable straps that sling over the shoulders and fit securely to protect your ribs and sides.

Pads protect your body from injury, but you won't get the maximum protection unless they are properly sized with a snug, aligned fit. To measure for shoulder pads, wrap a tape measure around your chest just below your armpits. The chart below provides a general guide to sizing.

Lacrosse Arm Pads and Elbow Pads

As with other lacrosse pads, arm pads should fit snugly on your arms and allow for maximum mobility. You’ll find several different types of arm pads and elbow pads. Attack players protect the arms with longer pads that cover larger portions of the arm. Defense players wear smaller pads for mobility. Most elbow pads have Velcro straps that allow adjustment.

To determining your arm pad size, measure the distance between the edge of your shoulder pads and the cuff of your lacrosse glove. You should see no exposed skin between the shoulder pad and the glove. The chart below provides a general guide to sizing.
